West Oxford Dinghy Racing

Every year a band of intrepid Lilliput SC dinghy sailors, usually accompanied by their friends and family head inland (?) to take part in the West Oxfordshire Sailing Club 8 hour race.

The event is organised as an endurance race between teams with each team entering two boats: one single hander and one two hander. The boats are sailed for a full eight hours, swapping every two laps.

The event is very popular amongst the Lilliput dinghy sailors, not just for the "interesting" sailing conditions (if you haven't tried inland sailing before, the windshifts /gusts are incredible!) but also for the friendly atmosphere and a fun night (or two) under canvas.

As a complete bonus in 2011, the Lilliput team won!
Congratulations to the "Poole Pirates": Dave Goodliffe, Pete Harlow, Geoff Westlake, Jack Heawood, Alex Clapperton, Deborah Chirnside, Jayne Lord, Adrian Brown, Martin Barker, Dawn Coverdale, Ian Scott (and family) and Alan and Ben Cheesman.
