Training for Dinghy Race Duties
At LSC, we each take responsibility for our own safety on the water, whether we’re on duty or simply out for a sail. During racing, our sailors are also supported by two crewed Support Boats (SBs). Our aim is for everyone in the SB team to feel capable, supported, and confident in their role.  

Opportunities

• Training by an RYA‑qualified instructor, gaining structured guidance and practical skills
• Skills Sharing Sessions
  - working alongside a more experienced SB Driver or Race Officer
  - taking the lead yourself, acting as the experienced member who supports others
• Peer Practice Sessions: pairing up with another member, at a similar level, to spend more time practising the on‑water skills you want to refine.
  

Other Development and Fun Opportunities

• Supported Sailing
  - A relaxed, sociable way to meet other members, with at least one SB on the water willing to help you. Open to everyone — whether you never race, race now and then, or race regularly
• Lagoon Racing
  - Short, easy‑going races in the lagoon — a friendly, low‑pressure way to come and join in, try out simple race skills, and build confidence, with two SBs on the water to keep everything relaxed and supportive.

Certified Training Courses
Official, accredited courses that lead to a recognised certificate.

• VHF Marine Radio Short Range Certificate
